About BOWRA Foundation

Life after a brain injury or stroke can bring real challenges, but it can also open the door to new strength and connection. BOWRA Foundation is a charity that exists to help people find purpose again, through shared experiences, supportive friendships, and the belief that recovery is possible in every form.

How the foundation started

The BOWRA Foundation was founded to improve early support for people living with stroke and brain injury, inspired by a personal journey.

“The activities developed by the BOWRA Foundation provide a unique and much-needed ‘safe space’ for military veterans within their own community.  Their progressive programme, which particularly attracts veterans from the Special Forces community, offers a less regimented environment where they can focus on their recovery and rehabilitation.”

FAQ’s

A few answers to things people often ask

  • We offer support, connection and community for people rebuilding life after brain injury or stroke. This includes:

    • A BOWRA Bag, offered on a case-by-case basis the more donations we receive the more of these bags we can give away.
    • A welcoming community of peers
    • Access to a range of activities, which may include:

      • Golf
      • Kayaking
      • Sea dips
      • Curling
      • Surfing and paddle boarding
      • Coastal walks
      • Coffee meet-ups
      • Cycling

Because each BOWRA Bag is funded through donations, we cannot provide them automatically to everyone. We allocate them carefully so they reach the people who will benefit most, and we do our best to offer as many as we can.

Our activity programme changes throughout the year. Some sessions depend on the season, and others develop as the charity grows and further funding becomes available. The best way to stay up to date is to contact us and join our community.
